The Trainer — South Plainfield, NJ

One year into Take Charge Training, and more than a decade into the habit that started it.

"I've been working out on and off since I was 21 and every time I stopped working out I would feel groggy, I would get mentally fat and I would just have a whole bunch of brain fog. But every time I started back up again the brain fog would go away, the energy would come back and I would just feel like a brand new person, and that is what made me feel like I should continue with this and motivate others to do so. I've been posting workout videos on my social media page and a lot of people messaging me saying you're keeping me motivated to go to the gym, and that also helps me in wanting to continue this as a career."

Years of training friends

He has been training friends on and off for years, and friends do not tolerate templates. They arrive with different goals, different schedules and no patience for something that clearly was not written for them. If someone wants to get into bodybuilding, he coaches bodybuilding. If someone wants to lose weight, the focus moves to cardio and diet. The person decides the program.

Nerdy on purpose

"I'm nerdy in general, so I like to get to the root of things." That instinct is why the questions come before the program: history, joints, sleep, the real shape of your week. He is not just doing random exercises — he wants to know the best workouts according to your body type, and he will tell you why each one is on your sheet.

Levels, not overhauls

He coaches the way a good game teaches: you are on a level, and the only job is to clear it and unlock the next one. Milestones are written as unlocks — first three kept sessions, first pain-free load, first time a scary weight becomes a warm-up. A bad week is a respawn, not a failure, so you restart at the checkpoint you earned instead of going back to zero. That is why the plan survives sick kids, travel weeks and long quarters.

Who he trains

Beginners, busy parents, executives and professionals — mostly people who want to feel healthy and clear-headed rather than stand on a stage. They get diet advice, workout advice, and a straight answer about how long to train so the work never hurts them.
